Pope Francis (by Aibdescalzo)

The pope has been elected:

Cardinal Bergoglio elected Pope Francis after two days of conclave http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/mar/13/papal-conclave-chooses-pope-day-two-live-coverage

Wikipedia reports:

Jorge Mario Bergoglio, SJ (born December 17, 1936) is the current pope of the Roman Catholic Church, elected on March 13, 2013, and taking the regnal name of Francis. Prior to his election, he served as an Argentine cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He has served as the Archbishop of Buenos Aires since 1998. He was elevated to the cardinalate in 2001. He was elevated to Pope in March 2013…

Jorge Bergoglio was born in Buenos Aires, one of the five children of an Italian railway worker and his wife. After studying at the seminary in Villa Devoto, he entered the Society of Jesus on March 11, 1958. Bergoglio obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Colegio Máximo San José in San Miguel, and then taught literature and psychology at the Colegio de la Inmaculada in Santa Fe, and the Colegio del Salvador in Buenos Aires. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 13, 1969, by Archbishop Ramón José Castellano. He attended the Philosophical and Theological Faculty of San Miguel, a seminary in San Miguel. Bergoglio attained the position of novice master there and became professor of theology.

Impressed with his leadership skills, the Society of Jesus promoted Bergoglio and he served as provincial for Argentina from 1973 to 1979. He was transferred in 1980 to become the rector of the seminary in San Miguel where had had studied. He served in that capacity until 1986. He completed his doctoral dissertation in Germany and returned to his homeland to serve as confessor and spiritual director in Córdoba.

Bergoglio succeeded Cardinal Quarracino on February 28, 1998. He was concurrently named ordinary for Eastern Catholics in Argentina, who lacked their own prelate. Pope John Paul II summoned the newly named archbishop to the consistory of February 21, 2001 in Vatican City and elevated Bergoglio with the papal honors of a cardinal. He was named to the Cardinal-Priest of Saint Robert Bellarmino.

I speculated that the death of Hugo Chávez could possibly influence this election:

Currently, cardinals of the Church of Rome are meeting in Vatican City to determine who to elect as their next pope.  At least two “leading candidates” are from South America.  It may be that the death of Hugo Chávez could be a factor in possibly selecting a pontiff from that region. (Hugo Chavez dies! Might this affect the Vatican election?)

Is Pope Francis the final pope?

That is too early to tell for sure.  But if he is, he will be an antipope and the final Antichrist.

But if he is, his age would suggest that there is not a lot of time left.

According to Catholic prophecy:

  • An antipope will arise, and should be the current Pope Francis.
  • A pope will hold an ecumenical council that satisfies heretics and results in a more ecumenical religion being accepted.
  • The vast majority of Catholics will accept the antipope.
  • A pope that performs miracles will arise.
  • People around the world will accept the faith that this miracle-performing pope endorses.
  • A pope that supports the “Great Monarch/Prince of the North” will arise.
  • The Great Monarch, that the pope supports, will eliminate the Anglo-descended nations.
  • The “Great Monarch/Prince of the North,” that the pope supports, will eliminate an Islamic confederation.
  • A pope will reign with the Great Monarch for around four years.
  • The destruction of Rome comes after tribulations that a pope oversees.
  • Armies from lands, including Russia and Asia, will gather in Armageddon
  • A great judge comes after Rome is destroyed.

According to certain understandings of the Malachy prophecy, Pope Francis is the last pope and if other Catholic prophecies are correct, those events will happen under his pontificate.

Thus, if all of those are true, Pope Francis will be an antipope, he will compromise the religion of the Church of Rome, the vast majority of Catholics will accept this modified faith, the tribulation will begin while he is pontiff, Rome will be destroyed towards the end of his pontificate, and a great judge will come.

On the other hand, if the Malachy list is not complete, then we will need to wait for another pontiff/religious leader to fulfill some or all of the above.

Do these Catholic private prophecies have any relationship to biblical prophecy?

According to Bible prophecy:

  • A false religious leader will arise.
  • This false leader will encourage an ecumenical faith.
  • The vast majority of humankind will accept this improper faith.
  • A false religious leader will perform signs and lying wonders.
  • Nearly all humankind will be deceived by signs and lying wonders.
  • The final Antichrist will promote the final “Beast/King of the North” that the Bible warns against.
  • The “Beast/King of the North,” that the Antichrist supports will destroy the Anglo-descended nations.
  • The “Beast/King of the North,” will destroy an Arabic confederation.
  • The Great Tribulation and Day of the Lord last 3 ½ years.
  • A few years after the start of the Great Tribulation, Rome will be destroyed.
  • Jesus will come after Rome is destroyed.

While the Bible does not clearly teach that Pope Francis is that religious leader, the timing of the election of Pope Francis is consistent with the time period for the end of the age and the rise of the final Antichrist.  Although the final reign of Antichrist with the Beast will not start for a few years, the Antichrist leader could be in place now.

We are living in the last days, and the last pope will take steps that will lead to the destruction of the world as we know it.

But the good news is that Jesus will return and establish the Kingdom of God—and ultimately there will be a time with no more pain, sorrow, or suffering (Revelation 21:1-4).  Until then, Bible teaches that we can expect to face many tribulations (cf. Acts 14:22), some of which will be brought about by the last pope.

The Malachy Prophecies and “Peter the Roman” An Irish bishop allegedly predicted something about 112 popes in the 12th century. Pope Benedict XVI was number 111. The next pope would be number 112 and is to reign until Rome is destroyed. May he be an antipope/final Antichrist?

A Note From End Times Headlines (went with a separate article, but I liked the note):

PERSONAL NOTE: Keep in mind that according to Malachy the characteristic of the “Final Pope” will be one who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The term “Peter the Roman” is a title not an actual name. this title may hold a deeper mystery than what many have traditionally interpreted as the man coming from Italy and his name being “Peter”. Time will tell soon enough. However we most always exalt the “Word of God” as the Highest standard above all other “Prophecies” and predictions.

2 Peter 1: 19 – And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God  spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

  1. Seeking Biblical Truth and Apologetics is really never “unprofitable”, but it certainly needs to be done seeking the Spirit of Christ! We can see this in St. Paul on Mars Hill (Acts 17:16-34).

    • I would say that you have good points just as Lyn does. I would also say you are a little to quick to assume you are right.

I understand what that the Greek word means chosen. I also understand that the contextual wording alludes to the possibility of the “elect” being deceived. There is a difference between being deceived and losing salvation. By what you say, it sounds like you believe the implication of being deceived means that one would lose there salvation, maybe not but it does sound that way.

I do not see how you can be 100% sure that a true Believer in Christ cannot be deceived. First if this is indeed the case (Believers cannot be deceived), then why did Jesus mention it at all, why bother to bring it up at all if it is not even possible? Second Believers are deceived quite often, and many will be deceived even more as time moves forward.

Satan wields great power over many Believers…why is that possible but a Believer being deceived into thinking Jesus is here when He is not is not possible? While the power Satan wields is only possible because the Believer allows it, nevertheless it is real.

Many Believers are not at all familiar with their Bibles, and many do not even open the Bible…you are going to tell me these folks cannot be deceived?

Last, I would say that as Lyn said, arguing is not really profitable. There has been plenty said here and it is time to put this to rest and move on. I hope you will honor this.

By the way, and I’m saying this ONLY because of my last statement….I am not a regular commenter I’m the editor.

      God bless
      Greg

      • @Greg: You should read all my blog comments and texts on this subject! Both the texts from Matt. 24: 22 and 24. The chosen or elect believers simply cannot BE deceived, “if possible”, but it is not possible to deceive “the elect”, with false christ’s, or antichrists! Note the whole doctrine and teaching of “the elect”! Of course I am Reformed and Calvinist!

And yes, debate and dialogue go together! Again at least in Christian apologetics. But you guys aren’t in it I can see. But best ‘In Christ’. ;)

        Fr. Robert

  2. @Lyn: I see you did get my first! :) I am not really seeking to “correct” you so much on biblical numbers, as to show the case of Numerology in the occult. As you noted there is a real difference between them! Note, I am somewhat an old “apologist”, so bear with me? ;)

*Now I do admit however, that your teaching and understanding on the “elect” was incorrect. But, please allow the Text and Bible there to speak for itself, as I have shared! :)

  3. Indeed in my opinion, “Francis”, (Jorge Mario Bergolio, Argentinean and Jesuit), will not be an antipope. it seems he is going to be just an intern pope, and he is certainly old school Roman Catholic and somewhat a traditionalist in Catholic doctrine. Note he is 76, and has but one lung, but the latter was since his youth. Again at 76 he is only two years younger than when Ratzinger became pope. I think he is an intern pope to give the idea of a new vision of the RCC away from their sexual priesthood problems, and move the Church in a somewhat moderate fashion, while maintaining the classic traditional model. But indeed one never knows what Rome and the Vatican will do?

    • This new pope is not a liberal per se, but a modernizer, yet conservative or traditional in Catholic doctrine. But again we must wait and see where he does go? Sometimes things don’t always appear what they really are!

      • Yes. Even the ‘elect’ shall be led astray…

      • Not with me, at least…but yes, it is my understanding many of the elect will be led astray..in fact, many already have if you look at some of the pastors who were highly respected..they have been misled and our now misleading others into false doctrine. It is so very sad.

        • Btw, biblically & theologically “the Elect” cannot be led astray! They are the “chosen of God”! See, Matt. 24: 22-24, but it is not possible for the true “elect” to be led astray. And note Christ is Himself called “elect” in Isa. 42: 1…”My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him..”

        • LOL Thanks! I don’t know, I’m not theological. I just listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit and follow His lead for everything, including understanding of the scriptures. The elect, the way I take it, means ‘not God’s real true children..’ but the elect has always meant to me..those who are well known and respected as being “leaders”. It doesn’t mean to me they are truly born again followers of Jesus. So, I guess you could say, I already knew that. I never took that verse to mean the truly saved people would be misled. Those who are truly saved will never be turned away from God Almighty or the real teachings of Jesus Christ. :-)

        • @Lyn: I am one of those that reads his Greek NT every early morning, and I am thankful for such! Btw the Greek word for “elect” is “Eklektos”, which literally means one picked out, or chosen. It is used of Christ, as the chosen of God, as the Messiah (Luke 23: 35). See also, 1 Peter 2: 4, 6. It is also used of the “elect angels”, (1 Tim. 5: 21), and yes, even of us “elect”-believers, (Luke 18: 7 / Rom. 8: 33 / Col. 3:12 / 2 Tim. 2:10 / Titus 1: 1 / 1 Peter 1: 1. Indeed “Believers” were chosen in Christ “before the foundation of the world”, (Eph. 1: 4, “to adoption”, (Eph. 1: 5); “good works”, (Eph. 2: 10), and also “conformity to Christ”, (Rom. 8: 29).

So sorry, “the way I (you) take it”, is not biblical, and is in fact just the opposite of the biblical word (Eklektos, Gk.) and Text! Don’t get mad at me now, but God has called us pastor-teachers to know and read the original text, in both the Hebrew and Greek. And hopefully to use proper epistemology (the study of the origin, nature, methods, and limits of knowledge), and here first, we always begin with the Biblical words and text itself! *Again, note (Matt. 24: 22 ; 24,… but is not “possible” to deceive the “elect”, but even they will be sorely pressed in “great tribulation”!

Btw, I am myself just one of God’s poor servants here, and no false humility, just my reality, but I press after my “calling”.. (1 Tim. 4: 13-16 / 2 Tim. 2:15). :)

      • You are fine to post your thoughts. I just don’t get into debates. I post the news and I offer my opinion at times. Everyone has a different take on things, and different views. However, for future reference, we do post articles that are not written by us to let people know what is going on in the world…we may not necessarily agree with it, but it’s news. Most of it, as I mentioned, is not written by us. So you’re kind of correcting the wrong person. I did not write the article, i just added factual information about the Illuminatis at the top of the article. The Illuminatis are not found in the Bible however, their spiritual ancestors, the Nephilim, are. They are a Satanic elite organization and have nothing to do with Bible theology. Their trademark signature is 13…that is NOT my partaking in numerology, that is my reporting the facts on an elite organization and their operations in the world, and their leaving their trademark signature.

In relation to the actual article I do have the source link posted if you would like to share the info with the one who wrote it.

        • @Lyn: If you noted carefully I said nothing directly about the “Illuminati”, I wrote more about the subject of the Numerology, which surely is a system of occultism built around numbers, birth dates, and divination by numbers, etc.

And btw, this blog surely is more than just opinions I hope, but the Holy Scripture, Prophecy, Modern Israel, as it all pertains to Christianity. I know since I am a historical “churchman” (Anglican), and certainly Theological, one needs to be perhaps a bit more “theologically” literate and read therein, with my comments. I will try to keep it simple! Yes, I am an old “theolog” (short for a theologian type). ;)

        • I know. But I feel you’re trying to correct me on somehting I did not do, and that I do not support. As far as numerology, the Illuminatis send messages through numbers and symbols. I do not do this..THEY do. When I see their mark in something, it is my job as a watchmen to warn and to notify people. Being wise to their schemes and understanding how they do things, and picking up on it so as to warn people is not my partaking in numerology. It is being wise to it because I study what they do. SO I guess I am confused as to what exactly you are trying to correct me about this article since I did not write it.

As far as numerology goes, God is a God of numbers, and He does give us signs in numbers throughout the Bible…. there is a FINE line between understanding God’s system of numbering and His hidden messages and witchcraft (numerology).

I do not partake in or support numerology. However, as I said, God uses numbers all throughout the Bible and I can’t help that. For example, 6 is the number of man. 4 represents the body of Christ, or the bride. Also, God uses things to send us messages as well. The Holy Spirit is symbolized by water and wind. And so forth. Again, this is not something I can help. That is Biblical. The numerology you are talking about will not be found here, nor do I practice such a thing. Just know that we will post articles to let people know what is going on… like if the pass a law making live abortion legal in some state, we will post it..but it does not mean we support such a horrific and sinful thing. God bless.

        • @Lyn: Not sure you got my last post? I had some problem signing into Word Press? If not I will try again! Also, the Christian will never escape “debate” in my opinion, not if one seeks to be faithful to the Word of God! I always seek to write in the Peace of Christ, even if I must admonish and even rebuke. For surely the pastor-teacher must engage here as the Scripture states! ( 2 Tim. 4: 1-2 / Titus 1: 9).

        • But the Bible warns us against such things, calling it unprofitable. It also can ruin a message and cause unbelievers to turn away. This blog is not a blog about debate. It’s just a news website the Lord led me to start. When debate goes on and on about things, I can feel the Holy Spirit inside of me cringe…it does not make God pleased, just as when my children argue, it aggravates me. It’s okay for people to share their information, or, if someone is leading people astray by some message of false doctrine, but I am just confused as to what you are correcting me on. You are correcting me for posting a news article I copied from another source, and for reporting that the Illuminati have left their mark. So it kind of seems to me that you are debating with me about absolutely nothing. That’s all I’m saying.

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! Matthew 3:2
